Some trends sound a lot worse than they are. For instance, tie hem tops. When I first heard about this trend I cringed thinking Britney Spears circa Opps I Did It Again…and as much as I love Miss B Spears I’d rather not channel that 90’s midriff look again.
Luckily, this trend is much better the second time around–with longer lengths and available in a variety of fabrics and assortment of prints. What I really like about this trends is that it’s versatile enough to be worn dressy or casual, making it a perfect transition piece to add to your wardrobe now or later.
Kristen Cavallari looks perfectly polished and trendy (coral is the color for spring) in her tie hem top–and if you like the color, try this version from Old Navy for only $27!
For a more boho-chic look, like Mika Kelly and Anna Lynne McCord opt for a shirt made of lightweight cotton or something reminiscent of a t-shirt like this one from Forever21.
Just like Minka and Anna I’d pair these casual tops with a flowy maxi skirt or flared jeans and a tall wedged heel for at total retro look inspired by Jane Birkin.
So tell us, is this one trend you’ll be trying?

Brace yourselves ladies–February 5th another whopper of a Target collaboration is about to hit…Jason Wu!

If you ask me, it’s going to be madness a la Missioni, all over again but this time I’m prepared becasue I want me some Wu! This line brings Mr. Wu’s unique runway aesthetic to the daily life of real women. His inspiration is a sort of whimsical “French Gamine” look which styling wise in the lookbook doesn’t really do it for me but I can totally see these pieces working in my wardrobe.
There a number of delicate blouses (how cute are the bow ties?!?) that will take you from work to date, effortlessly and of course, keep you looking tres chic! And the basic pleated skirt? Amazing. Did I mention that I love, love, love, this navy dress with the bright stripe (spring trend alert!) bottom?! Styled with some platform pumps or dressed down with a pair of cotton converse sneakers–this dress is sure to be a Spring wardrobe staple!
If you vow to only buy one piece from this line (those of you who do, I admire your discipline!) make it one of the handbags. These structured styles are the sort of classic pieces that you’ll wear to death. I especially love the linen and black color-blocked pieces! Or any and all of them really! The collection is undoubtedly functional, fashionable, fabulous and a little French so you really can’t go wrong.
Give your Spring wardrobe a kick start….Get Wu’d! You can checkout the entire lookbook here.

When it comes to Winter four words sum up how I feel…I’m so over it! Everyone always says “oh isn’t it so nice to live in a part of the country where you get to experience every season in it’s majestic glory”?? The answer is no. I don’t like seasons, I only like 80 degrees and blue skies as far as they eye can see…you know, Southern Cali weather.
During my days spend pining for Spring I’ve also been shopping for my soon-to-be Spring wardrobe and on my list this year is an updated trench. No more tan for this girl…this season I want something different and fresh and this denim trench just happens to be it.
It’ll look oh-so fabulous with the soft, sorbet colors we’re seeing for the new season and its just has such a cool 70’s vibe to it…oh and you won’t believe the price!

Lately it seems that the fashion world is obsessed with, Brad Goreski’s new term: POC. If you haven’t seen It’s a Brad Brad World yet, it stands for POP OF COLOR. And according to Brad, we all need it daily; I agree.
After seeing the gorgeous Angelina Jolie and Heidi Klum at the Golden Globes last weekend, there is no doubt that a base of nude with a POC will be all the rage for Spring. Angelina took it up a notch (of course she did) and matched her lipstick, purse, and nails, to the red on her gown. Heidi wore the trend by rocking a teal statement necklace and ring with her nude gown.
I love both of these POC’s against a monochromatic nude base and can’t wait to start wearing the trend. If you don’t want to go all out, try it on your just hands or feet first! Polish those pretty toes in bright red and slip on a pair of nude peep-toe pumps. Or paint your nails in one of springs hottest colors like mint or yellow and carry a nude clutch.
The great thing about this trend is that a POC can be incorporated without costing you much at all. Cocktail rings and statement necklaces at Forever 21 are around $10 and every woman has red polish on hand! Have fun with this trend, weather you go California cool like Heidi or sultry and sophisticated like Angelina, it’s sure to be a hit.
Will you be matching your nails, lips, and accessories this season? Tweet me your #POC @vafashiongirl!

Do you yourself wearing those favorite pair of jeans, over and over again? What about that gorgeous, oh-so-comfy cardi? Or your go-to favorite handbag? Well, we’re all (even celebs)guilty of this crime, if you even want to call it that. I have a lot of favorites hanging in my closet, some of which are in constant rotation…#dontjudgeme. I am a girl on a budget, right?
And since we always turn to some of Hollywood’s A-List fashionistas to see how they’re wearing that coveted bag or dress, there’s nothing better than seeing how they, too, switch up and pair their favorites with little to no effort…some prefer shoes, others bags but regardless of what they like, they always make their go-to’s look super stylish and fresh!

We’re always looking out for the latest trend or new cute thing to buy, but this weekend, we challenge you to take a look at your favorites and have fun re-mixing them with what you already own…a simple change of shoes or pants could make it feel totally new again!
And trust us, it’s OK to be a repeat offender…as long as you’re styling it differently each time. This is one fashion crime that’s CheapChica approved!

UPDATE: I know these have sold out, so here’s another great option for only $29.99!
I’ve been watching so much football with my husband lately. Those crazy announcers always make their picks, so this week in honor of the NFC/AFC championships coming up, I’m putting my money on…coral jeans!
Trust me, these will be the must-have jean of the Spring so if you don’t own them you need to get them and this pair from F21 is an amazing deal for under $25. You can find them elsewhere selling for up to $200, but after much research, I still think this version is the best one I’ve seen so far!
But if you order them online, pick them up in your size and one size down. They seem to run slightly bigger than traditional F21 sizes. This way, you can just return the ones that don’t fit–BTW, if you order from F21.com they WILL give you a full refund if you return via mail!
This will save you from the dreaded “oh no, they’re sold out and now I don’t have my right size” moment and me from the emails asking for help in trying to locate them!

Hi/Lo Skirts. Let’s discuss….you may have heard them called cascade skirts, mullet skirts (eww, that one makes my skin crawl!), asymmetrical, etc. Whatever the name, the look is the same. What do you think?
I’m leaning towards a yes only because they’re flattering, versatile, cute, modern, a little hip, a little edgy…and most of all, fresh! Need I say more??
I’m especially loving the soft pastels these skirts are popping up in, like this mustard yellow one from Forever 21 and the one pictured here from Anthropologie that I just purchased.
This not too short but not too long skirt is sure to be a Spring staple, but before the temps heat up, I plan on wearing mine with a thick, rich cable knit sweater, opaque tights and ankle boots.
When it comes to color, opt for a soft sherbert color…they’re going to be huge this spring! And when its finally warm enough wear them with pretty chiffon tanks or silk blouses.
Take a look at some of these affordable options and let me know how/if you hi/low!

These days, all it takes to show someone you are a “friend” is the click of the “accept” button, but this season I am all about the throw back to the ‘80’s…old-school style display of friendship…the bracelet.
Colorful yarn bracelets, bedazzled with all the loveliest bling are everywhere. And although they may not be as meaningful as the ones you made with your bestie in 3rd grade, they will go a long way in spicing up your average outfit. High end, bling-friendly friendship bracelets have been all the rage ever since the real life besties from Frieda and Nellie designed embellished yarn bracelets.
They run for upwards of $150, but never fear, the concept has caught on and some of your favorite, more reasonable retailers like The Limited and ASOS have the cutest, festive colored bracelets that are perfect for stacking, combining and giving.
This one from Free People does the thinking for you, combining several bracelets together to give you the stacked look all-in-one. Delia’s has them in every color scheme (for $12.50!!), making them the perfect addition to your weekend look of a chunky sweater and jeans. They can even be used to give an eclectic feel to a dressier outfit!
So have fun and brighten up your winter with these whimsical and colorful arm candy!

Bright clothes? Check. A bright, daring lip for your next party or outing? Go for it. But now, stars and those alike are lovin’ and doing bright shoes.

Mandy Moore and Brooklyn Decker decided to take a break from the neutral and dark palette of shoes were used to seeing and took a turn for color—bright color!
Both were out in LA recently with starburst colored shoes. On top, the girls were nothing short of sweet and romantic, with their spin on the LBD. Their shoes, however, were off, way off…but in a good way!
Hair, makeup and everything else was kept pretty simple and that’s the key here…let the bright shoes be the focus. And with awards season upon us, I’m sure we’ll see this trend keep popping up…even if it’s just a peek of color under a gown.
So for all of us non-celebs, why not try this daring, simple-to-do trend? All you need is your brightest, prettiest shoe and one of the LBD’s or LWD’s that’s been collecting dust in your closet! And in case you’re short on bright shoes…here are a few options for under $100!

So I was neither here nor there about the red carpet tonight…no one looked a hot mess and no one totally blew me away. But here are my picks for best dressed–and this means overall best–I’m taking into account the hair, make-up, accessories, shoes, etc…
Emma Stone in Lanvin…
Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang (caliente!)…
Nicole Richie in Julien McDonald (but I would have kept the belt as seen on the runway)…
Julianna Margulies in Naeem Khan
(my FAVE–dying over the earring and gown color combo–stunning!)…
Angelina Joie in Atelier Versace…

and Jessica Biel in Elie Saab.
And in case you didn’t notice- I’m all over this long-sleeved gown thing happening…it’s so elegant and old Hollywood (and perfect when your arms aren’t in shape like mine!). So who were your favorites? And are you excited for this red carpet season or did this make you wary of red carpets to come? Oh bring on the award season fun!
