What to Wear/Buy in 2010

by cheapchica11 on January 10, 2010

What better way to start the New Year then to update your look. Say good by to ‘09 and hello to 2010 with some new (and old) staples that will make you feel like you bought a whole new wardrobe.

image1xxlWe sometimes think that to start the new year off right we need to throw out the old and bring in the new…but that’s not always the case. Alhough 2010 is blooming with mixed prints, slouchy silhouettes and sequins, these are all items you may find in your closets from previous seasons.

For starters, keep anything from a floral to a funky print. These are pieces you’ll find yourself wearing for this Spring. Ditto for your boyfriend blazer, white tee and tights, but as for  your boyfriend jeans, you can pack them away. This season it’s all about a soft pant in lightweight fabrics like jersey and silk which will become the new “go-to” style for pants.

image1xlSequins were everywhere–we say them early Fall and then they dominated for the Holiday season.  For Spring 2010, look for a sequin jacket in a print like this one from ASOS which retails for only $40.97.  This printed or even ombre sequin look is a great way to update your look for 2010–not to mention, you won’t have to add any extra accessories.

For a more casual jacket, choose a tweed style that screams vintage and modern at the same time. For shoes, the “shootie” will remain a staple item, but try one in bold color and an open-toe style for Spring.

And don’t forget to pick up some fun accessories to finish off your new look! Anything chunky is still on-trend,  but if you’re looking for one item that will compliment anything in your wardrobe–choose over-sized links! These chunky chains are the latest must-have accessory and they’ve come a long way from those 90’s rap videos!

Here are some of my favorite picks for 2010 for under $50…. Enjoy!

Cheap or Chic: Cut Out Details

by cheapchica11 on January 6, 2010

image1xxl-1While the thought of exposing this much skin right now makes me shiver, thanks to the sub-freezing temperatures we’ve been having for the last FOREVER, I’ve been seeing this cut-out detail trend on everything from tights to dresses and it needs some serious discussion.

Should the cut-outs only be on the back? Maybe only on a dress? Or is that too risque and should we keep them on tops only so you can tone down the look with a jeans or trousers??

This coral number from ASOS retails for only $42 (plus $6 flat rate shipping to the USA!) and it definitely caught by eye, but I’m wondering if it might border on the trampy line…in a good way?

Like many things in fashion, sometimes all it takes to transform a dress from street to chic is the styling.  I would keep my legs bare with this dress and go for a classic nude pump.  I’d also keep all of my accessories super simple and lady-like to balance the super-hero/vixen-y look of the dress.

What do yall think?  Is this trend here to stay? Do you dare to bare with all of these sexy cut-outs?

The good news is whether you’re on the fence or totally gung-ho on the cut-out craze, here are some inexpensive buys that you can experiment with…

One-Shoulder Goes Winter-Chic

by cheapchica11 on October 19, 2009

Picture 1If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know how much I love me some asymmetrical styling when it’s on a dress…and for Winter the good news is you can still rock the one-shoulder!

For the cooler temps, look for a long sleeved version of the Summer’s hottest silhouette and pair it with tights and ankle boots to take it from hot to cold!

This Barbie pink number is from ASOS and for about $105 (plus int’l shipping) you will have a phenomenal, show-stopping dress that you can feel super sexy and fashion forward in!

Play Thing

For the longest time I kept calling this style of clothing a “romper” but our friends across the pond in the UK have come up with a much better name…a playsuit!!

I think that moniker perfectly captures the spirit of this one-piece and should you choose to try out this look, style it in a playful way…think casual fabrics, fun colors and kitschy prints.

I’ve been looking for a playsuit for quite a while now, but I was only able to find dressy, silk-y “going out” versions, and IMO those are a fashion don’t.  They give off too much of that “Jenny From the Block/On the 6″ vibe.  I suggest wearing these in a much more casual way, like with cute sandals on a warm summer day or as a bikini cover up at the beach!  The ones above are all from ASOS and you can click here to check out their entire “playsuit” collection!
