Kell on Earth is Heaven

by cheapchica11 on February 1, 2010

kell-on-earth-hot-topic-sneak-peek-2Love her or hate her, Kelly Cutrone makes for damn good TV.  In Bravo’s newest reality hit in the making (I’m calling it right now!) Kell on Earth, you get a behind the scenes look at the high-powered and fast-paced world of fashion PR as cameras follow the life of Kelly and the team at People’s Revolution.

If you’re a reality TV fan, you know Kelly from both The Hills and The City, but this series completely strips the People’s Revolution office of all it’s fake glamour brought on by these two shows.

Instead of beautiful lighting and even more beautiful assistants, in this show, Kelly let’s us see how someone who actually works in this cut-throat industry looks (at 1:30am–without shiny hair and a make-up artist standing in the wings) and feels about themselves and their job.

01-lauren-peoples-revolution

There’s no time for Lauren Conrad’s awkward silences and endless hair twisting…or Stephanie Pratt’s total incompetence in this NYC office!

And in case you missed the premiere, here’s a link to the Kell on Earth site where you can get a taste for Kelly’s cut and dry approach to everything…catch the show Monday’s at 10pm EST on Bravo.

Golden Globes Round-Up: Best/Worst Dressed

by cheapchica11 on January 18, 2010

Oh awards season, how I love you!  This is just the start of my sports season and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the shows.

Now, just like everyone else on the blogosphere, I’m entitled to an opinion about what I think the BEST and WORST looks of the night were, so feel free to agree or disagree but here are my picks…worst dressedBTW, I literally shed a tear when I had to list two of my absolutely fave women on here, Marion Cotillard and Ms. Cruz.  On first sight, I was totally amazed with Marion’s Christian Dior…the color, the sculpted bodice and the simplicity of her hair/make-up, but then E! had to go and do their pan down and to my horror there was some kind of lace slip where the slit should be? WTF? Oh and don’t get me started on her Steve Madden (circa 1998) strappy platforms.  I mean you have access to Atwood and Louboutin…why Marion, why?

Now on to PP.  I love her and she is a fashion dynamo, but this Giorgio Armani Prive dress proves that no matter how much money you spend on a designer dress, horizontal stripes (even in black) make everyone look fat.  Sorry, but she looks about 30lbs heavier that she truly is.  Big mistake.

Tina Fey: See exhibit above.  No words needed.

Then there’s Julia’s sorry excuse for a dress.  Did she think she was going to dinner at The California Pizza Kitchen?

Now for the good stuff…topping off my list were the following women who despite the monsoon like rain, killed it on the red carpet!  And excuse me, where did Jennifer Garner get that body??? Didn’t she just have a baby like six months ago?

best dressed

O.Wilde can do no wrong in my book and I think she’s a totally sexy screen siren and that Gucci dress is totally amazing on her!

Emily Blunt I heart you and your Dolce & Gabanna dress and BTW, you look so good in love! The fit on this dreamy chiffon gown is incredible and the color proves that you don’t have to spray tan to pull off a lighter color.  Her skin tone looks radiant against this soft pink.  And props to her (and her stylist) for wearing her hair wavy and not trying to fight the downpour. It might feel a bit messy to some of you, but it was a lose lose situation tonight because of the weather.  Humidity sucks!

Finally to Drew…I forgive you for your last red carpet disaster ONLY because you’re rocking this rediculously unique and one-of-a-kind Atelier Versace dress.  The shoulder detail is so hot right now and it’s perfectly balanced with the hip detail.  Not to mention, the hair is perfect and so is the make-up…she looks beautiful!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this dress! If only I had 20K and a Golden Globe nomination!!

Golden Globes Round-Up: Honorable Mention

by cheapchica11 on January 17, 2010

diane-krugerDon’t ask me why (I’m still trying to wrap my brain around it) but I’m kind of digging this Christian Lacroix Haute Couture stunner on Diane Kruger.

The degrede on the fabric is exquisite and the mille feuille look is soooooo Parisian and chic and it also kind of reminds me of the dress Carrie wore in Paris when she waited for Alex!  I just love it!

I also like risk takers when it comes to awards shows, and while it may not always work or translate to mass appeal, this dress it totally doing it for me!

What did you think of tonight’s looks? Did any stand out or did everyone bore you?  Stay tuned for my Best and Worst dressed coming up shortly…

Look for Less: Cheryl Cole

by cheapchica11 on July 20, 2009

71566_cheryl_cole_arrives_at_lax-16_122_398loI’m going to assume that most of you don’t yet know who Cheryl Cole is, but you should definitely learn about her!  This British import is one of the starring members of the all-girl group Girls Aloud and she’ also happens to be a judge on X-Factor (the original AI)…

Anyway, she arrived at LAX looking adorably cute in this mini-dress by Marc Jacobs and looking like she was ready for her Hollywood close-up!  And can we just talk about those red-polka dot shoes for a second???  They’re totally amazing and they’re by one of my new favorite shoe designers, Charlotte Olympia!

The Greta linen platform shoes she’s wearing are on sale at Net-A-Porter, but they’re still WAY out of my CheapChica budget, so I  put together a loose interpretation of Chery’ls outfit with the focus on the super cute polka dots and affordability!

picture-16Both pieces do feature the super-sweet pattern, but when combined with an ultra-short hemline, oversized metal link bracelet and vampy nails, the look is anything but sugary!

Style Links: Pin Dot Silk Dress $27.80, Link Bracelet $5.50, Polka Dot Pump $69.99, Croc Clutch $17.99, Essie “Wicked” Polish, $4.75

She’s Back…

by cheapchica11 on June 21, 2009

2ndannuallistawardsarrivalsvmcebgpyr5fl

Rachel and all her TV goodness (including Taylor and Brad) will be returning for a 2nd season on Bravo starrting August 25th!!

I’ll be tuning in for every episode to get my fill of her amazing clothes, awe-inspriing jewelry collection and countless Rachel-isms!!

I’ll also be keeping a very close eye on her new “collection” for QVC…my ex-employer is handling all of the production for her handbags so she should be in really good hands.

But I have to say that I’m scared to death about what the powers that be at QVC might do to her vision and ideas.  They have a tendency to butcher anything that has real fashion relevance in exchange for higher profit margins so here’s a warning to all of you brilliant QVC execs…

LET RACHEL BE RACHEL! She’s one-of-a-kind so don’t try to mold her into one of your vendor clones or you’ll miss out on one of the only opportunities you’ll ever have to make shopping on QVC acceptable to a consumer who actually knows and appreciates true fashion.

It’s good to have you back Rachel!!

Out With the Old…

by cheapchica11 on June 1, 2009

OMG, I can’t wait for the “new” Hills! Kristen Cavalliri plays the villain like no one else’s business and she’s just what this show needs to stay alive. I’ll miss seeing LC’s fashion choices but it might be worth it for all this drama!! Are you excited for the show and what did you think of last night’s season finale???

Literary L.C.

by cheapchica11 on March 4, 2009

lauren-conrad-b_9

LC has added yet another title to her ever-growing resume…author.   The Hills starlet has penned the first in a series of books based on her not-s0-real life in LA.  The book will follow the story of a 19-year old girl as she moves to La La land, lands and internship and finds her own way…sound familiar??  I’m sure this was a huge mental stretch for Ms. Conrad but on a positive note, the cover is super-cute!!

The book hits shelves on June 16th.  So what do you think of LC’s latest project…will you be reading LA Candy?

From Zoe to Zero

by cheapchica11 on March 1, 2009

rachel

According to the New York Post, Rachel Zoe is seriously pissing off her celebrity clients like Debra Messing and Cameron Diaz. So much so, that Debra supposedly gave the tiny fashionista a pink slip!  Her clients are annoyed that Zoe is working on her reality show too much and losing focus when it comes to her first job (and the reason she even has a TV show), styling.

Rachel can do no wrong in my book and as far as I’m concerned these stars are just jealous that they now have to share the spotlight with Rachel and that the rest of us get to pick up on her styling tips free of charge!  And Debra Messing, really??  She’s got bigger, brighter stars to worry about like Oscar nominated, Anne Hathaway!

Some seem think that Rachel needs her celeb clients to survive in this business and make a good TV show, but let’s not forget that this woman’s life would be worth watching if just for the clothes and accessories…and Brad of course!

Bring back my ZOE TV already!!

Technicolor Nightmare

by cheapchica11 on January 25, 2009

picture-311One of the biggest trends on the red carpet was color…unfortunately, these gowns were not the way to do color.   The first dress isn’t even that bad, and I actually like the rich green shade…unfortunately, the overall styling totally missed the mark.

Christina Applegate is usually on my best dressed list, but this green sack thing did her amazing body no favors.  If she wanted to be comfortable, she should have at least upped the glam factor with standout jewelry.  That long diamond necklace totally looks out of place and it only emphasizes the general messiness of the dress.  The earrings look like a solar system hoovering around her face and she really needed pick something more classic and elegant to elevate the casualness of the gown.

And what happened to Eva Longoria??  She truly wowed in that stunning red gown at the Golden Globes, but she must have asked Robert Verdi to dress her again because she’s back to the overdone, over styled prom-queen business again.

My general feeling about tonight’s red carpet looks was …boooooring.  These women left me wanting and expecting more, so let’s hope and pray that the Oscar’s really deliver!

The Short List

by cheapchica11 on January 25, 2009

picture-129That was easy…when there’s that many fashion DONTS on a red carpet, it makes my job very simple.

Here are the women who actually remembered that they were attending the SAG awards tonight and who decided to actually dress like the movie stars that they are.

Anne chose white, the hottest color for this Awards season, and looked like a goddess in that Grecian inspired Azzaro gown but she should have used a hair stylist in addition to her wardrobe stylist…I do not care for that hair.

Kate Winslet just gets more and more beautiful every time I see her and she’s radiant in this cobalt blue number.  And more power to her for showing us again and again that real women do have curves!

Rounding out my top 4 are America Ferrara in a beautifully draped nude Vera Wang number, which combined two usually blah neutrals and made them totally WOW, and my favorite princess, Amy Adams in a rich Violet Giambattista Valli gown.  I didn’t love Amy’s dress when I first saw it because of the bows, but once I saw the gown up close and realized that they weren’t actually bows, I quickly changed my mind.  The color is striking against her skin tone and the loose column silhouette is a nice contrast to the corseted top.  She looks sexy, yet elegant at the same time.

What do you think?  What were your favorite looks of the night??

Speaking of…

If  I were lucky enough to be at Sundance this weekend, this is one of the films I would be dying to see!

RJ Cutler’s documentary, The September Issue, is a real life “Devil Wears Prada” and was compiled from 300+ hours of footage he shot during his 8 months at Vogue.  The film is said to have Anna Wintour’s seal of approval (some even say she’ll attend the Sundance premiere) but I have a feeling that since Cutler had final cut, Ms. Wintour might be in for a surprise…or at least I hope so!

I couldn’t post the video but you can click here to watch a preview of the film on Fashionologie.
