A LBD, a ballet flat, and a tailored blazer are just a few of my go-to’s but but perhaps the most important is a classic white button-down. It’s a universal item you can find anywhere, but what sets this piece apart from the others is the sheer versatility of it. Buttoned, un-buttoned, worn alone or layered under a sweater or blazer, this single piece of clothing is practically season-less.
The most important things to consider when choosing the perfect white button-down are fabric and fit. I’ve tried countless white button downs from numerous retailers, but I’ve never come across one that was just “me”. They’d usually fall somewhere between office drab to just plain sloppy.
So when I was in search of my fall staples, I wandered into Gap and there it was…a crisp, slightly over-sized white, button-front shirt. I tried it on and to my surprise it was exactly what I was looking for and this shirt checked all of the items off my list….perfect fit, relaxed, and effortlessly chic.
Now if you’re looking more for an office-wear, check out this one, also from Gap. It has all the updates of the boyfriend look, just a tighter, cleaner fit that would suit any professional wardrobe.
No matter what your style, the white button down is definitely a style chameleon…. it’s a staple in many celebrities wardrobe! Elizabeth Olsen (right) prefers a men’s style button down and has been spotted in one everywhere from the red carpet to the grocery store.
And let’s not forget how effortlessly chic Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked in her Coachella ensemble– boyfriend shirt, cut offs, and ankle boots! The super model has also donned the top with a blazer and cap toed pumps for a more polished look.
