All Tied Up…

by Patricia Maristch on January 26, 2012

Some trends sound a lot worse than they are. For instance, tie hem tops.  When I first heard about this trend I cringed thinking Britney Spears circa Opps I Did It Again…and as much as I love Miss B Spears I’d rather not channel that 90’s midriff look again.

Luckily, this trend is much better the second time around–with longer lengths and available in a variety of fabrics and assortment of prints. What I really like about this trends is that it’s versatile enough to be worn dressy or casual, making it a perfect transition piece to add to your wardrobe now or later.

Kristen Cavallari looks perfectly polished and trendy (coral is the color for spring) in her tie hem top–and if you like the color, try this version from Old Navy for only $27!

For a more boho-chic look, like Mika Kelly and Anna Lynne McCord opt for a shirt made of lightweight cotton or something reminiscent of a t-shirt like this one from Forever21.

Just like Minka and Anna I’d pair these casual tops with a flowy maxi skirt or flared jeans and a tall wedged heel for at total retro look inspired by Jane Birkin.

So tell us, is this one trend you’ll be trying?

Yes absolutely! And was was so there with you when I first heard of this trend. B spears all the way. I do love it’s reincarnation though.

I’m with you, initially there is a cringe factor with this trend because it COULD look a little trampy, but I think if done properly, it can look really great. It allows you to emphasize the waist without having to tuck in the blouse or belting your outfit. I tried it here: http://natashafatah.blogspot.com/2011/11/deconstructed-tiger.html

I did this a lot last year. It’s an easy way to take a slightly too big thrift store find and turn it into a more fitted wearable piece.

Tried on the Old Navy blouse this weekend in the neonish orange. Love!
