Could it be Ratatat’s catchy song or the sea of oddly paired colors which all came together so beautifully in this video ad campaign (please watch it if you haven’t seen it already) that made me fall in love with Prada’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection (sans hideous flatforms)…
Whatever it was, pink and orange have never looked so good together and this collection is a HIT all around…the accessories, the dresses and the blouses…I love them all and I’m all about these daring stripe combinations. And so were fashion books from ELLE to InStyle, which both featured the orange and pink Prada striped dress in their April issues!
Before a friend played this ever-so-fun video for me, I wasn’t exactly keen on this collection. All I could see were those repulsive platforms (sold out in all Prada stores BTW), but through this campaign Steven Meisel was able to focus his lens on the clothes more than the footwear (thank God) and since then, I’ve been spotting (and wearing) bold colored stripes just about everywhere.
Zara’s take on Prada’s ever-so-recognizable stripes are by far my favorite budget friendly adaptation. Their ¾ length silk blouses, which unfortunately have not been released in their latest look book just yet, are well-made, vibrant and flattering. And how incredible is this skirt…for $60 it needs to be in my closet ASAP!
They have color combos that are almost identical to Miuccia’s (see above) and that that very same Zara top could easily be mistaken for the real deal, which happens to retail for thousands of dollars!!
