If there’s one look I can’t get away from this Fall, it’s cowlnecks. Lately, I feel like I can’t go a day without seeing multiple incarnations of that classic draped neckline- on a chic woman walking down the street, or on a mannequin in a store, or even on a runway look I’m lusting after on the web.
They’re everywhere! Just type “cowl” into the search bar of any affordable online retailer and you’ll find lots of easy choices. I’ve even found them combined with my favorite fall trends; lace detailed, slit shouldered, sheer, velvet, chunky knitted and color-blocked cowlneck tops and dresses are all available.
They look great cinched with a wide belt to give some curve to your shape or tucked into high-waist pants, like in the Anthropologie pic above. This particular cowlneck tee is on sale for $19.95! Paired with that super structured jacket… to die for!
Basically, the important thing to remember is that if you’re going with such a loose top, the rest of your outfit should be long and lean to avoid the frumpy I’m-hiding-under-my-clothes Olsen twins look.
The neckline also lends itself to dramatic, statement-making earrings, since a necklace could be difficult to pull off. I’m planning on snagging those gaudy, red Lanvin for H&M collection earrings once they hit stores. Those earrings + a grey cowlneck = unstoppable.
