Look for Less: Steve Madden Roady — The CheapChica's Guide to Style

Look for Less: Steve Madden Roady

by cheapchica11 on September 8, 2010

These are hands down one of my favorite pairs of boots that have come out in the past few seasons!

What many don’t realize is that the Steve Madden Roady (pictured here as the “look”) is actually a knock-off of a Charles David boot…which I own.  I splurged on it last Fall because it’s the kind of boot that makes everything look totally bad-ass and they were so comfortable I couldn’t imagine leaving the store without them!

My pair is a perfectly worn-in gray color with a red zipper up the back and that’s kind of the reason I was attracted to them in the first place! The zipper detail is oh-so cool and adds a fun touch of unexpected color!

Steve Madden did a great job of replicating this style, but at $199 it’s still really expensive for a knock-off.  Luckily, enough time has passed and other retailers have figured out how freakin’ cool this boot is and issued their own more budget friendly versions.

First example, this pair from Charlotte Russe for only $20…and NO, that’s not a typo.  TWENTY DOLLARS! The only have them in a size 6 so if you have tiny feet, consider yourself lucky because these are the deal of the century.

And if you’re feeling sad, don’t! Target has an almost identical pair (pictured right) for only $34.99 in tan and black!  Better yet, they have a full size run in both colors!!  Get these now…I lived in them last Fall!

Hm. I tried on the Charlotte Russe boots yesterday, and didn’t think they were worth even $20. The calves were very bulky and shapeless and I thought my legs just sort of swam around in them. True shame. I really liked the look of those boots, and loved that they were nearly flat, but had a tiny bit of lift in them.

Lulu’s also has a knock off boot similar to these in gray!

VERY good to know!! thanks for your review!! anyone try the target ones on yet???

i just happened to buy the target ones last night!

i’m iffy as to whether or not i’ll keep them. going to try with some skinny jeans & leggings to see what i think of a complete look. they don’t look as “real” as some of target’s knock-offs (like the faux frye harness boots). and while they ARE cheap, i don’t want them to LOOK cheap.

they seem true to size and pretty comfy. (i went up a size so i could include a cushioned insole.)

oh – and i got the tan.

I just bought the gray Target boots online. Haven’t tried them on but based on previous experience with Target boots, I am hopeful! My pair from last year held up amazingly well during a snowy, icy, slushy NYC winter. Sometimes, fake leather is better than the real thing. Also love that Target is a place where I can reliably find a size 11 that is cute and well-fitting. This is the second awesome Target bargain I’ve found on your site within a week – thanks!

The Steve Madden boots are available at victoria’s secret for less than $100.00
i bought mine at macy’s for about 70 bucks and i’m thinking of buying the brown ones now too! so comfortable.

JUST bought the black Target pair – as in probably 20 minutes ago. I’m pretty stoked, especially since I have ridiculously huge calves and Target boots never fit! Heck, I tried them on over non-skinny jeans (not attractive, but I needed to make sure…) and they zipped. That’s awesome for me… and bad for girls with normal sized calves.

just a question, i bought these in tan on sale at macy’s for 70 bucks last week and was wondering what else I could wear them with besides leggings and skinny jeans. Do skirts work? If so, any suggestions???

baker’s has more of these – black, gray (with purple zipper) and tan. $100. i didn’t try them on, but they looked like they might be narrower in the foot – not quite as bulky.

i tried on the madden girls tonight ($70 at macy’s as noted above) and the shaft was just too bulky on my calves and wouldn’t work under jeans. (i’m a practical shopper and would want to wear them over jeans/leggings AND under a normal pair of jeans.)

They actually have a pair at Sears that are originally 70, but on sale for 40. Weird huh, Sears? Like do they ever have cute stuff LOL. The boots also have the red zipper, but the brown is just a tad bit darker and they go over the calves unlike some of the knock offs. Thinking im going back to get them today :)

Famous Footwear has a very similar pair from Unity by Carlos Santana for $90. I just bought the brown, which is darker than the Steve Madden version, and can’t wait to wear them!

I also purchased a pair but from Candie’s at Kohls. I am IN LOVE with them! The ones at Target do not fit nearly as nice and are about 1 – 2 inches shorter in length which hit weird even on me at only 5′6″.

Forever 21 has a pair also : ) Just ordered them online. The brown is lighter then the steve madden ones, but my friend has them, and they are absolutley adorable. 35 dollars. : )

The Unit by Carlos Santana at Famous Footwear are on sale right nor for $54.95. A steal! They’re a little more distressed looking than the Roady boots, but for $55 it’s still a great deal.

Where did you get the Charles David knock offs? I have been looking for boots like these for the longest time (especially in brown or tan), but the only ones I can find are the ones from target (online…) in black. Any help here??
