Rack to Reality: Treseme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

by Monica on September 5, 2010

Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo: Around $4 or $5; available in all drugstores and beauty aisles

Let’s face it ladies, we don’t all have time to wash, dry and style our hair everyday so on those lazy mornings my life saver and inexpensive dry shampoo has always been baby powder.

I recently saw the commercials for the Tresemme Fresh Start Collection so I decided to test it out.

The dry shampoo smelled like hair spray. It did not have a “fresh/clean” smell or feel. I felt like it was absorbing the moisture but then making my hair really stiff…kind of  like hair spray does. Then, the next day after wearing the dry shampoo, it had caked in my hair making it difficult to brush through.

Shopper’s Notes: I have light hair, so I will be going back to inexpensive and reliable baby powder for those greasy hair days…but if you have darker locks, I would suggest trying PSST…this product gets rave reviews, it’s super cheap and every person I know RAVES about how it just zaps the oil out of hair!

Maybe its just me or my hair, but ladies if you have tried this product and liked it let us know what you thought!

I tried this a month or two ago, and I agree – NOT a good product as it left my hair really stiff.
Pssst! dry shampoo is a very good product, but I also like Batiste dry shampoo. I could never find Pssst in stores and always had to order it online, but you can find Batiste at Sally Beauty Supply, often on sale for $5.

I’ve only used this product a couple of times, but I had a different experience with it. It seemed to soak up the oil, but didn’t make my hair cakey or stiff. At first I was horrified because it made my hair white, but after I brushed it through, it was fine. Not sure if it depends on hair type… I have dark, thick hair. But if baby powder works for you, why not!

I couldn’t agree more! I get oily roots at the end of the day and have used pssst for years. I gave this kind a try recently and while I preferred the smell, it seemed like the product actually made my hair heavier and greasier! Dislike. Definitely skip it and stick to pssst.

I purchased it after hearing someone rave about how awesome it was. The smell is okay, and if I apply it to everything but my roots I get some added volume. However, my greasy roots are why I bought it in the first place! So if you have fine hair are looking for big, messy bed head look this would work fine, but otherwise just take a shower. It did nothing for my roots, and actually made my hair look worse.

Dry shampoo can be amazing if you know which type to purchase. The kind by Ojon is kind of pricey..around 20 dollars for a large bottle, but it makes my hair look freshly cleaned even if I don’t fee like washing it after the gym! With this dry shampoo, the price is worth it.

I have thick hair with bangs, so I bought this thinking it would be great to use on my bangs when they get a bit greasy but the rest of my hair is fine. Definitely SKIP! The smell is so strong and it was really hard to brush out. Instead, I’ll use the ‘ol Psssst! dry shampoo…hey, its not as chic as pulling out some Treseme, but it does a lot better of a job (and it’s cheaper too).

every dry shampoo i’ve tried ends up making my hair feel dirtier.

i love bumble & bumble’s hair powder. i used to use baby powder, but every now and then would end up looking like a grade school actor playing an elderly person, with the powder-gray still visible st the roots. bumble’s hair powder is tinted, so you can get blonde, red, brown or black to blend into your hair. i use it when i’m styling because it gives a lot of volume (and a little hold just because it’s a powder on my roots – not because it’s hairspray-like) and it helps my hair from feeling greasy by the end of the day or end of a workout. highly recommend!

I had a completely different experience than others with this dry shampoo – I absolutely love it and use it a couple of times every week. I’m trying to grow my hair out so only want to wash it every two or three days, and so a dry shampoo is a must. My hair is blonde and fine, but I have alot of it. This gives it lots of body but doesn’t make it feel heavy or crunchy, and I have no problem brushing through my hair like others. The instructions say to continue shaking the bottle while you’re using it, so maybe that’s the problem some people have – not shaking it enough and keeping the ingredients mixed? I find if you follow the instructions – shake in between sprays, use it lightly, and brush it out after a minute – then it works great. Absorbs the oil and gives me body, and actually makes my hair look better than when it’s freshly washed.

I totally agree that this product should be skipped. It didn’t keep my hair looking fresh and clean like others I have tried. I’ve tried several high dollar and drug store versions of this stuff and for my money, the Pssssst for Blondes is the BEST! It covers up roots and makes hair look clean and fresh. Love it! http://www.amazon.com/Psssssst-Blonde-Color-Volumizer-6-Ounces/dp/B001390QFG/ref=dp_cp_ob_bt_image_1

I had the same experience – this stuff does little to nothing to help with oil control with my hair. It was basically pointless to use!

Hey there yea i used tresemme and found exactly the same it left my hair feeling heavy and worse than with just grease. In the end i used batiste not that much better because there is still a residue but it does clean much more. nice post. Never heard of PSST will defo give tham a try cheers:)

I couldn’t agree with you more. I wish I had seen this post before I purchased this product. Would have saved me $5 dollars that I could have spent on a new nail polish.

I have used a lot of volumizer hair sprays and Shielo’s Volume Hairspray is by far the one I prefer the most. Would deffinately buy it again. It adds volume and is not hard and crispy if you know what i mean!
