Emmy Red Carpet Re-Cap — The CheapChica's Guide to Style

Emmy Red Carpet Re-Cap

by cheapchica11 on August 30, 2010

Let me just start this post by saying that I found most of the fashions last night totally underwhelming…it’s like all the celebs are terrified of Joan’s sharp tongue and her new show on E!…anyway, let’s get to “BEST” first and I use that word lightly…

I didn’t even know who Jennifer Carpenter was before tonight, but I’m now a huge fan! That dress is TDF and while the one shoulder trend has been done a million times on the red carpet, I’ve never seen it done in full on sequins and with a long-sleeve! So very sexy yet totally understated!  As a huge fan of GLEE, no one on that show can do any wrong in my book but Lea Michele you need to EAT!  She’s beautiful in her Oscar de la Renta gown but she looks like she’s lost way too much weight!  I haven’t liked Claire Danes since My So Called Life, but I love this dress…clearly I’m totally having a sequins moment!

Now for the bad… it was hard to narrow it down because there were so many misses on the carpet but here are ones that were most disappointing.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I’m exhausted.  Crazy stalker girl from GLEE, you look like you’re attending a prom in 1984, not cute!  Heidi, we get it…you’re a “hot mom” enough of the super-sexy short dresses.  And Emily Blunt you are usually my fave…but you look miserable in this dress.

Finally, I know I’m going to get so much flack for this, but I kind of loved January Jones in her blue Versace.  That woman oozes confidence and no ONE (well maybe Cameron Diaz) but her could have pulled off that dress.  It’s couture and it needed to have a moment on a red carpet…I love a fashion risk and she gets huge points for being the ONLY one of the entire night!!

So tell me who was your favorite?  Who made your Worst/Best dressed list and like me, are you so tired of all the boring and safe dresses on the red carpet??

We’re agreed on all but one point. Lea Michelle was actually too gaunt to be top three for me. I think that sounds cruel because it’s hard enough to be in the spotlight constantly but she looks like she’s sick and that really overshadowed the glam factor for me.

LOVED January and disliked all your nays. Especially disappointed with Blunt-Krasinski. I get the idea that its hubs’ night so go neutral but she’s fierce and shrinking violet doesn’t suit her.

did you just you the phrase ‘needs to have a moment’?? i love watching rachel zoe and her ‘isms, but it’s getting out of hand this season and when we start using them.

Love January Jones’s dress – 100%. Claire’s dress was great too.

I DIE for that blue dress and I think Rachel Zoe would too……

I was totally underwhelmed as well! There were a lot of disasters so even the “best” gowns would’ve only been mediocre on a different red carpet. If I had to choose, my best would be Claire Danes, who looked head-to-toe perfect.

I loved Nina Dobrev’s dress!

I absolutely love Claire Danes’ dress and her whole look. She looked gorgeous and very glam. My other two favorites were Kim Kardashian and Jenna Fischer..both also stunning!

I totally agree! Loved January’s dress and cannot comprehend how a dress of such a beautiful color, fit and vision landed her on so many worst dressed lists. Well done Jan!

I’m still unsure about January Jones’ dress, but I will say she rocked it with serious confidence (and great posture!!) But on a “Mad Men” note, I was not digging Christina Hendricks’ dress, and I usually find her to be one of the most stunning women on the red carpet!

I always seems to fine the Emmy’s, on the red carpet and the production itself, to be underwhelming. I guess I’m just more of an Academy Awards kind of girl ;)

I agree completely! Claire Danes was radiant. My mom and I were pretty disappointed too, there was a lot of fugly going on and not nearly enough gasp-worthy looks. And a lot seemed to have an okay dress and then fail in the styling.

I loved loved loved the neutral sparkle on Claire Danes, but as Kelly Osbourne said on Joan River’s scary show, it just looks too old for her, and TOTALLY overpowers her.
