This summer has been one of the worst on record for me…in terms of breakouts. I don’t know if it’s because of my age, hormones or what but I feel like every week I have a new breakout. I started getting facials on a very regular (and expensive) basis to help calm down my overly active skin and I threw out all of the “bad” make-up that my dermatologist thought might be the culprit. The actual zits were pretty mild, but they left unsightly red spots once they were gone and that’s what drove me crazy!
I’m like a skin sergeant when it comes to AM/PM cleansing- I don’t go to bed without washing my face (ever) and I always treat the slightest sign of an oncoming pimple with my Dermalogica drying cream, but no matter what I was doing, it wasn’t good enough!
Thankfully, for the last two weeks all of this skin stuff has started to calm down significantly and the only thing that changed, was adding a Clairisonic Mia to my cleansing routine.
The spin brush helps get rid of all the make-up, dirt, oil and more importantly the dead skin cells (exfoliating is what’s making the biggest difference for me) that regular cleaning left behind. It’s so easy to use and you can even use it in the shower…and I love the 1 minute timer! I doubt many of us wash our face for one whole minute so this makes sure you do! My skin feels so much cleaner, softer and best of all it looks so much better. I’ve even noticed that my pores look smaller and my skin is less oily throughout the day.
The Mia has become an essential part of my skin care routine and for the first time in months, I’m finally happy with the way my skin looks. Thank God! I have this kit and while I know $149 is not cheap, it’s an investment in good (clear) skin and is there anything more important? Considering I was spending about $100 for my monthly facials, I see this product as a total steal!
If you’re on the fence about this, just get it…trust me, adding it to your skin-care routine will visibly improve the look and feel of your skin!

Is it gentle and safe to use on sensitive skin?
Could not agree more! I’ve been having the exact same problems now, and I finally broke down and invested in a Mia too! It’s made such a difference in my skin that I consider it money well spent!
I read somewhere that it is actually better and less harsh to use your hands instead of a device for acne-prone skin. I guess maybe this rule just applies for sensitive skin?? But I must say that many people who are acne-prone have sensitive skin, so…? Hmm
Do you know if it’s better to use the Mia or the Pro? Thanks!
I have the same types of breakouts and have been wanting to buy a Clarisonic forever but never have the extra cash. I have very sensitive skin and I have used a Clarisonic (I was fortunate enough to work in a store where we were allowed to take them home and try them) and it didn’t bother me at all, but left my skin looking clear and radiant. Check out the FAQs page on their website and it lists the types of skin it on which it should not be used. I hope you find this helpful!

You can buy different brushs for it depending on your skin type. I have sensitive skin too but the Mia is the best thing that has ever happened to my skin. I use it everyday, sometime twice a day.
I find that a paste of baking soda and my cleanser does a great job of exfoliating once or twice a week (and you don’t get much cheaper or basic) just rub your favorite cleanser to a lather in your hands until you get some suds and add enough baking soda to make a paste and gently rub all over your face. Cleans off the dead cells without “stripping” your skin. I find it doesn’t stimulate oil production the way a lot of cleansers do and I don’t have to spend more than $1.99 every 6 weeks….
Ok, here’s my best shot at your questions…
*I def. have sensitive skin…like the kind that breaks out something as simple as sunscreen and the Mia hasn’t irritated or caused it to act up. If anything, it’s calmed it down…the brushes are super soft and they oscillate…they don’t SCRUB. So the cleansing is thorough but not harsh. I def. feel like the brush does a 100 times better than just cleaning w/my hands. Esp. in the exfoliation department
*I’ve never used the PRO, but I think the only difference is the speeds. The Mia is fantastic…wouldn’t spend the money on the more expensive Pro if I were you. And Mia is much smaller and more portable.
Honestly, it’s a god send. I love the way my skin looks and it really does feel cleaner than ever before!
I’ve been using a Clarisonic for years and it’s hands down one of the best skin products on the market. You will notice a difference the first time you use it…promise! I have VERY sensitive skin and used to break out often, but this does the trick in helping to reduce buildup. I love it…definitely worth the $$$!
I’ve heard wonderful things about the Mia, but unfortunately I can’t afford it now. I’ve been using the Wave from neutrogena and although it is not the same as the Mia, I think it still gives you a much better cleanning/scrubbing/exfoliating than a regular handwash. I highly recommend it. Oh, and it also has different applicators you can choose from….http://www.neutrogena.com/product/shop/new+products/wave+sonic+spinning+power-cleanser.do?sortby=ourPicks
I really have not found that Clarisonic can get rid of acne. And in spite of the directions (which recommend it be used twice a day), my dermatologist said this is far too intense an exfoliation to be doing every day. Once a week, maybe.
The truth is, most acne is hormonal or due to sensitive skin. And if your acne seems to be caused by oily skin or buildup, if simple cleaning and regular exfoliation doesn’t work, neither will the Clarisonic. Save your money!
What finally helped my skin was that I stopped using the Clarisonic, stopped using toner/astringent, and switched to super-gentle cleanser (Cetaphyl) and moisturizer.
I will say, though, one positive thing about the Clarisonic is that it does make your skin very soft. But it does not cure acne.
When using the Mia do you still need to exfoliate two to three times per week or does this take the place of that? Also anyone using it that has bad blackheads? I get blackheads all over my nose and nothing really gets rid of them for good. My dermo also said in general I have large pores so when they are gone my pores are still noticeable.
My skin has been freaking out lately but only on my forehead. Its pretty annoying. After reading these glowing reviews, I may have to invest in a Clarisonic.
Jacki, I would consult your dermatologist- esp if your skin is sensitive. But I think that’s the point of the brush. I feel your pain about the BH’s! My derm told me the same thing…if you’re stuck w/larger pores you can’t ever get rid of them or even shrink them, but you can make sure they’re super clean so that they’re not as visible. For me the MIA def. gets everything super clean.
Hi Lindsey, I think it’s a different experience for everyone. Hormonal acne is very different than normal acne caused from dirt, irritation or oil. I have the latter and the MIA has def. made a difference…but I also think that diet, stress and hygiene are also factors. I wish there were a magic cure for pesky pimples but there isn’t!! If we came up w/one we’d me BILLIONAIRES!!!
And in terms of how often to use it, I asked my derm and she said it was fine for me to use 3-4 times a week…I think everyone should check w/theirs before starting any kind of skin regiment.
