Cheap or Chic: Faux Foxtails

by cheapchica11 on August 15, 2010

This was a second take for me. I had to look and then look again. And to be honest I’m still up in the air with this one… But I’ve been seeing it more and more, so I had to give it a shout out!

This slightly bizarre accessory trend has been picking up speed in Hollywood as seen here with Victoria Beckham. She sported her Louis Vuitton Messenger Bag ($2,640) and Foxtail Charm ($1,120) as she strolled through the airport. Personally, I would only sport a faux foxtail and I definitely cannot spend over $1000 on furry tail accessory!!! So I attempted to find some reasonable faux foxtails to clip onto my (not Louis Vuitton) messenger bag…

This online boutique, La Dama, offers up this faux foxtail for $42. I love that it’s a clip on because it would look great with several of my bags. I also prefer the white over Louis Vuitton’s colored tails, too. White is much more versatile.

I knew one place that would be sure to have some foxtails would be Etsy. This shop carries a faux red and white clip on foxtail for $38. Pretty cute!

I found real foxtails for much cheaper – but I love animals and I am willing to shell out a couple more bucks for the fake foxtail!! What do you think of the furry foxtail trend…cheap or chic?!

I’ve been dying for a foxtail since Louis Vuitton made them an accessory, but I couldn’t stomach owning a real one too. I think it’s kind of ridiculous that there are so many real tails on ebay for 10 dollars and I can’t find a fake one for that price!

I’m going with ‘cheap’ on this one. Sometimes fashion is there to take us to great places with clothing, and sometimes I swear stylists come up with something like this just to see if we are all trained enough to do what we’re told. I shall refrain from putting a tail, faux or not, on my handbags for now, though I must admit this photo offers a fairly cool take on the look.

I’m going cheap. It looks more like a cat is shoved in her handbag. Plus, I tend not to care for things that are too trendy and that I feel won’t carry over season to season. I like to avoid the “what the f*** was I thinking?!” reaction when looking at photos of myself in the future.

Cheap. And I can’t believe that people would even think about carrying a real foxtail. That is equally disgusting and tacky as wearing a real fur coat.

CHEAP! Not only is carrying a real fox tail disgusting, wearing any kind of fur is so… 1985. And definitely not in a good way.

Even in reference to the faux fox tails, it looks tacky and white trash. It’s definitely making my knocked-up stomach turn.
With that said, any suggestions on cute, AFFORDABLE maternity clothes that don’t contain dated geometric shapes or … I don’t know, other ugly, dated things?? YOU’RE THE BEST!

I’m disgusted with this trend. We need to be more progessive and protect animals. This is inhumane and I agree with the previous comment that says it looks like a cat shoved in a bag.

Hate it!

I love the faux fur tails but I would never ever carry a real foxtail, not even a LV one. It took me forever to find a faux fur one even though the real ones were all over AND some were way cheaper than a faux one. I did buy the one from La Dama even though I saw one on etsy that was cute too. But the one on La Dama was more subtle and will look better on my bag.
Not everyone likes them and that’s ok. I do and it’s my bag it’s going on. I will be happy to know it’s not real and although it took me HOURS to find a faux one, it was well worth it!

it is a shame that the real ones are cheaper.. but i do LIKE this trend. When I first saw it on a gurl, I thought it was so pretty (find out latter LV started the trend?). She is very indie in her dress. It seems so down to earth & natural, like wearing feathers (another popular style) The foxtail kind of reminds me of the lucky rabbits foot. But i’d prefer the faux. & they are so soft, I would enjoy having one on my purse or belt loop just to fondle for luck or nervousness :)

I think this trend doesn’t make sense. Is it supposed to bring some semblance of femininity to a masculinely structured bag? Why put a dead animals tail on anything? Think about the Karma…
