Are You Ready For This Jelly?

by Ann Whitbeck on June 2, 2010

rretaketwochinlaunsweetfuschiaLately, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pool/beach shoe to replace my beloved flip-flopss–enter the  grown up jelly!

Now in the age of Crocs, it seems like anything plastic that people put on their feet is totally acceptable but I just don’t think Crocs are in my cards…

But jellies,  now that’s a different story.  These are like the high-class cousin of the Croc, right?

I remember my first pair of purple ones my Mom finally got for me from Target like it was yesterday. But, clear and sparkly–for someone older than age 9? Hmmm…what do you think girls? Are you into plastic footwear?

Surprisingly I have found several versions I really like– I even found high-end versions from Stuart Weitzman, DVF and Kate Spade but there’s no way I’m paying $150 for plastic!

Especially when there’s this pair for $38 from Lulus.com or this truly cheap pair from Urban Outfitters for $6.99!!

I’ve got an identidal pair in a dark mushroom colour from Ovyé by Cristina Lucchi. I think they were around €30 (here in Italy). I get so many compliments on them!

So cute! I use to wear them as a kid, but they DEF didn’t look like those!

So cute, I love the Urban Outfitters pair too. I love crocs for my kids (very practical that you can throw them in the sink to clean them up) but NO WAY for me! I would really love a pair this season!

I don’t know if I could wear jellies again, I still have nightmares about them from the 80s. I had purple sparkly ones too!! And as for Crocs, they are banned from my house.

The one’s you have pictured could change my mind…..they would be really cute for the pool with an Old Hollywood style bathing suite and huge sunglasses – and a mixed drink. I think I could rock that

I like jellies for the pool, but you have to be wary of wearing them too much because they make your feet sweat–like a lot!! Ew! But, they can be very cute!

As for the crocs you mentioned… I have to share a hilarious story that should ward everyone away from them. I was in Colorado on a vacation and one night my fiance and I stopped into a dance club where people were dancing on the bar, and there was this one girl who wore a sweatshirt and hot pink crocs while dancing on the bar!!!! I was mortified for her–she could not go unnoticed–in a very bad way. Girls be warned! Crocs may be comfy (I don’t know, I refuse to try them), but they do NOT belong on a table, dancing!

I’m all for them. Last year I bought a pair of coral colored peep toe sling backs by Melissa and I love them. They add instant sunshine to any outfit.
