I’m going to totally date myself by saying this but I just need you younger girls to recognize how lucky you are to have a store like Forever 21 carrying prom dresses…
My options were sooooo limited back then (12 years ago to be exact!) and as a result I ended up spending way too much money on a dress that made me look 10 years older–and no, I will not post my old prom pic!
I was at the mall this weekend and couldn’t believe how many chic and modern “not your typical prom dress” dresses F21 had…I typically shop there for all of my clothes, but who knew they had such cute formal party frocks!?! They’re even offering FREE SHIPPING (use code DRESSMEUP at checkout) on any of their prom dresses to help make your purchase more affordable!
Anyway I digress…I had about a million emails asking for advice on where to buy a beautiful prom dress on a budget, so to answer all of the questions in one foul swoop, I’ve put together some my favorite finds for prom season…
If there’s one thing I think any girl should have it’s a short dress–you have to dance on prom night (duh!) and wearing a long gown will only get in the way of you getting down, so opt for a shorter hemline. And keep this in mind while you’re shopping, if you go short, you can easily wear it again for a party…can’t do that with a long dress!
I’ve also broken the dresses down by “mood”…there isn’t a perfect dress out there for everyone, so stay true to your style and find one that fits your body type and that reflects your personal style or the type of look you’re going for at prom! And if you’re shopping in-store you can even save 15% on select styles…oh and take the extra money you saved and get yourself some cute jewelry and a killer pair of shoes!!
BTW, if you’re way past prom age, you should still check out the assortment, some of them would work really well for all of those upcoming weddings!! Love this one!

Nothing makes me feel more old than thinking of prom.

Ahhh I didn’t get to go to prom. But it’s so true how girls now really have a lot more options than we had back then. All our dresses were super expensive, now they can definately find something cute and affordable!
I only went to my junior prom but like you, options were very limited on where to shop for a dress and my budget was painfully small. So I designed my own. Bought a McCall’s pattern that was similar to what I wanted and could be customized. I drove into Houston to High Fashion Fabrics and bought the fabric. Then believe it or not, my mom and my dad made my dress for me. Yes, my dad was excellent at sewing. I ended up with a one-of-a-kind custom dress that was inspired by a picture I saw in Vogue magazine.
Prom dresses are so much cooler than what I had in the late 90s. Loving these cute prints.
Amen to these “girls today” (sheesh that makes me feel old!) having access to F21. My prom dresses were long and beaded and heavy and just… so late ’90s. But really, I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that we would LOVE to see your prom pictures! I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
no kidding!! Ok, fess up…where did you buy yours? I think I bought mine at Cache or something horrible like that.
I wish we had these styles when it was my prom almost 13yrs ago. I am in my 30’s now and for sure wouldn’t mind wearing one of these cute dresses for a special occasion.
A little past the prom days… but still loving these dresses!
