Getting my housewife on and watching DVR’d Oprah is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. In one episode entitled “The Science of Beauty,” Oprah’s own medical guru Dr. Oz spoke about what you should really be looking for in your beauty products as far as ingredients go and what really works.
He advised that using products containing glycolic acid on a regular basis is an ideal way to both exfoliate your skin and render fine lines less noticeable. Sounds good to me, I thought. But… now: what product to buy?
Well, let me tell you: I have fallen for DDF’s Glycolic Exfoliating Wash (and I’m not the only one, check out the reviews on Sephora).
This amazing cleanser is a combination of ultra pure glycolic acid and gentle foaming action, which at the same time reduces fine lines and softens your skin.
It’s true, after I use this minty wash I feel refreshed and my skin is super smooth. Love it.
The other thing I love is that you get so much of it: $35.00 will buy you 8oz (that’s a lot, girls!) and considering you only need about a dime-size amount for each use (if not less), the thing will last you months.
One very important thing to remember: when using any products containing glycolic acid, always use sunscreen as the acid makes your skin more susceptible to the sun and thus prone to sunburn (which would kind of defeat the whole anti-aging thing, right?).
Check out last week’s BMH post for the perfect compliment to your new, fabulous glycolic cleanser.

Hi Lilliana,
As a follow-up to your post, some of the serums and cleansers from the Colorado-based, eco-friendly line, Mychelle Dermaceuticals have Glycolic for under $40. Cleaners under $10!

An additional moisturizer which is a cult fav is Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar.

I have VERY dry, sensitive skin and thankfully I am not allergic to this. I wouldn’t say it is a miracle worker but it did hydrate my skin and create a nice glow in the first week of usage. Now, it has lost its touch. It is probably just my skin since this has rave reviews.
I had to stop purchasing the expensive salon products I was using before and I am still on the hunt for suitable alternatives.
You have suggested a face wash and sunblock-do you have a suggestion for a recessionista moisturizer?
Thanks much!

I love this wash from DDF. My derm recommended it last year and I scoffed at the $3o price but it last forever and my skin loves it!
Your recommendation has totally sold me. I went to the DDF website to check it out, and then noticed in my email that Daily Candy has a 25% off code. So I bought this cleanser & one of their moisturizers, and got almost $20 off my order by going directly to their website and using the code. I love Sephora but if I’m going to save 25% then it’s worth it to go through the DDF website! Plus, they have free ground shipping. It doesn’t feel like as much of a risk to buy a somewhat expensive skin care product when you’ve got a deal like that.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I have been using the Grapefruit Glycolic Scrub Wash from Made From Earth for at least 5 years. I have tried other “generic” brands only to be disappointed. Made From Earth’s Glycolic Scrub keeps my sensitive skin blemish free and healthy looking. Very, very pleased.
This is by far the best face wash I’ve ever used! It is safe to use around your eyes & isn’t over drying. Most stores where I live don’t carry it so I buy it through their website online.
