ITA that this is super cute, and not to get political, but I’m genuinely curious; does it bother you at all that she teamed up with Wal-Mart? I’m not trying to be controversial, it’s just every time I look at the stuff there, I feel a little twinge of guilt…probably just my Catholic upbringing ; ) Keep up the great work!
By far, Walmart is not the only company taking advantage of cheap labor while polluting the environment. Any company that sells fast fashion (Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, H&M, etc) does the exact same thing.
It’s $8. Americans love it and will buy it up. Goods could be made in the USA but quality is usually inferior yet the price goes up.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the Norma Kamali line from Walmart and I own several pieces. But it’s time people stopped singling out Walmart as socially irresponsible when most companies function this way as well.
Excellent points! I should have been more specific; the problem that I have with Wal-Mart is that they kill small business in America. Granted they aren’t the only ones to do so, especially with so much labor occurring outside the United States. It is true, however, that many small businesses that for years flourished in rural areas, have been driven out because of them. (Not to mention the fact they refuse to give employees in excess of 38 hours per week so as to avoid benefits, but that’s another comment entirely…)
Yes, I’m well aware of how Walmart treats their employees. My father worked there for 6 months making 7.50 an hour after being laid off by his employer of 38 years where he was making $23 an hour. He too got knocked down to 36 hours and could not qualify for benefits. But this story is out there, everyone who takes even a minute to be informed knows it, but Walmart continues to flourish. Is it right or is it wrong? I have no idea. And I don’t think they killed small business. I think the “loyal” customers who frequented Mom and Pops but left to shop at the new Walmart down the street killed small business. Each and every consumer in America has a choice as to where to shop. And as evidenced in Walmart’s earnings year after year, Americans want the low prices. Irrelevant of their business/employee practices.
But eventually, all great things must come to an end, no? One day Walmart will be no more. And in its place we’ll have an even bigger, greedier, meaner, uglier beast. I think it’s called HEB. LOL
