She wore flowers in her hair…

When it comes to headbands you can end up looking like a 5 year old, or totally ridiculous like Whitney Port did at The Hills finale party!  I’m not a huge fan of wearing headbands around your head vs. around your hair and I know some of you are very supportive of this look, but IMO if you’re going to make a statement with your headgear, why not do it in a more subtle, wearable way??

Headbands have seen a major revivial these last few season, thanks in part to Gossip Girl, but for this Spring I think they make the perfect accessory to any outfit! They also provide a pretty easy fix for a bad hair day and it’s an easy way to keep your hair off your face on those sultry Summer days!  I love the styles with floral details and there are plenty to choose from that are all under $10, like this one above for only $6.80.

So whether you’re Summer bride looking for the perfect hair accessory or you just want an inexpensive way to add some glamour and femininity to your look, search no further than these adorable floral headbands!!

Is Zoe a CheapChica??

by cheapchica11 on March 30, 2009

rachel_zoe-1According to People.com she is!  The magazine sat down with the stylist/designer/reality TV star to get more details on her growing empire and here’s what she had to say about her new clothing line:

“It will be absolutely, 100% accessible fashion for sure — for everybody. There’s no reason for me to do a luxury-level design. That’s not who I am. I don’t think it’s what people want from me. I think that I would need to give people that fantasy becoming a reality. That’s my job!”

But don’t throw a fashion party just yet…I too got pretty excited when I thought of all the caftans, gaudy gold accessories and fur coats that she’s going to be designing and selling at “accessible” price points but let’s remember, this is Rachel Zoe…the same woman that spends $50K on vintage designer duds on the way to lunch!

The collection, which is rumored to be named “I Die”, will have a little bit of everything…jewelry, clothing, bags and fragrances so let’s all cross our fingers and hope that Rachel does in fact deliver on her words!  I would love to see a Forever 21/H&M priced collection from her…that would be BANANAS!!

…happens to be the name of a very pricey and exclusive boutique in the Hamptons that would retail a dress like this one for $500, but in this case I’m using it to describe the eye-catching color-block combo in this adorable dress! I love the high-waist and the ruffle detail on the top are perfectly on trend for this Spring season!  This is the exact kind of dress that I always need, but can never find…until now!

Click here to buy it for less than $50 and with all the money you’re saving, you can afford to pick up the shoes featured in the “Best Buys” section…they’ll make for the perfect pair!

Dear CheapChica

by cheapchica11 on March 27, 2009

I have several pairs of staple, slightly boot legged jeans (7 for all mankind I bought before I found your savvy site!) that I love and seem to love me and my new post-baby, voluptuous figure. My main concern is, since I can no longer wear my 4 inch pumps on a daily basis, I feel like I am out of touch wearing flats without the pencil legged/skinny jeans…so can I wear the slightly boot leg jeans with flats?  What are the rules in that dept?
Thanks a million,

Ann

rwitherspoon080208_2Hey Ann,

Thanks for writing in and congrats on your new bundle of joy!  Dressing your post-pregnancy body can be a real fashion challenge, but lucky for you this season it’s all about the more relaxed fit “boyfriend” jean instead of the super skinnies you’re referring to.  These jeans are also a more fresh and modern alternative to your boot leg jeans as well!  And while skinny jeans are by no means on the “out” list, you can still look just as stylish by pairing a great pair of BF jeans in a distressed wash, with a cute flat sandal or shoe!

picture-115Many of Hollywood’s hottest moms, like Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Peet have recently been spotted wearing this BF style.  As busy Mom’s, these women need to be comfortable, but they’re not going to sacrafice style in order to do so! I found a few great pairs of jeans that I think will do wonders for your post-pregnancy body and all of these styles have some lycra in them, which will help the jeans hug your body in all the right places and suck in the “problem” areas.

In terms of shoes, try pairing them with a Grecian inspired flat sandal or a floral pair of jeweled flats…and if you do feel up to it, these BF jeans look perfect with a sky-high pair of gladiators as well!

Hope this helps!!

Wedge Your Bets!

by cheapchica11 on March 26, 2009

picture-116

I’m going on the record here and stating my lack of affection for wedges.  As you know, I’m only 5′1″ (on a good day) and this style never looked look right when I put it on.  It seemed like too much shoe for my short legs, and I need all the leg lengthening I can get, so I typically pass on this style when I’m shopping for Spring sandals.

But this season, no matter where I look I’m being bombarded by images of cute wedges that I just can’t resist, like these from Payless and Delia’s.  They have a slimmer, more sculpted wedge and I much prefer them to the chunky wedges of seasons past…not to mention they’re all under $40 so who can say no to that…not even a former wedge-hater like me!

PINK me Up!

by cheapchica11 on March 26, 2009

This week Lauren Loves

picture-24

We’ve seen countless new trends this season from distressed jeans to dazzling metallics, but the one that has caught my eye was this Fall’s hot pink statement dress. Since I’m a girl who adores wearing dresses, I must say that it was love at first sight and though many people feel that this color only belongs in Victoria’s Secret, this season the runway disagrees!

Wearing bright colors can sometimes bring up a Cheap vs. Chic situation, but I’m here to tell you how you can pull of this vibrant color while still looking fabulous and totally stylish!

d-80597pinkaLadies, if you really are interested as much as I am in wearing this daring color, opt for a dress that’s simple and sleek with clean modern lines, like this great find from Lulu’s, when it comes to picking a silhouette.  You should also “K.I.S.S.” when it comes to your accessories!

When picking out the perfect pair of shoes to go with your pink dress, opt for a nude color or one that has a splash of pink in it.  I love the way Micheal Kors showed off this exact look in his fall collection so don’t be afraid to have fun in the shoe department!  Open-toe pumps or sandals are also a great option because you don’t want to pair this upbeat, bright color with a heavy shoe!

And if you’re not a dress girl, but you can’t live without this color, no worries… hot pink is being seen in everything from shoes and pants to shirts and jackets!!
