Fallen Star

So here’s a great example of how fashion can go terribly, terribly wrong when you don’t trust your own instincts. In the picture on the left we have Ms. Simpson, looking ultra-chic in a boyfriend blazer and bad-ass knee high boots, arriving for her “Fancy” fragrance launch at some suburban Macy’s in the Valley. And on the right we have her at the actual launch…um, excuse me?

What happened?

Did she stop into Rave on the way to the store from the parking lot and let the assistant manager style her????

I mean I can’t even begin to list out all of the fashion sins that this dress is responsible for , so I will say is this…she clearly knows how to dress (see picture on the left) but since she won’t stop with the too tight, too ruched, and too much boob I have permanently cast her onto my worst dressed list. Let’s hope she was just using this desperate dress to try and get Tony’s attention!!

Dear CheapChica

by cheapchica11 on December 17, 2008

I’m studying abroad in Spain next semester (!!!) and I’ll be arriving in the rainy season, so I need some sort of raincoat…but I want to look cute! Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Steph

I am so excited for you! I spent a semester in Madrid and it’s one of my favorite places in the world…the people, the marcha, the food and of course, the entire southern coast! You’re going to have an amazing time and I’m totally jealous!

Like you mentioned, it does rain most of January-March, but it’s also pretty cold so you’ll not only need a waterproof raincoat, but you’ll also need one that’s warm or that you can layer under. When it comes to raincoats, I always stick to the basics. Look for a double breasted style in classic colors like Navy or Khaki and one with classic details, like these cute gold buttons. I usually prefer a trench coat with a tie, but this military style raincoat has a great slim cut so it should fit you really nicely.

The Madrilenos are incredibly stylish and tend to dress up much more than we do in the States, so you may want to consider a raincoat in a dressier material…this way it can do double duty for both day and night. And while I don’t suggest something in Satin, I do recommend a water-resistant material with a nice sheen that will make your entire outfit feel chic…even if you’re just wearing jeans and a tee underneath!

You can’t go wrong with either one of these styles and since they’re both under $100, take your savings and buy yourself a cafe con leche and some churros! Safe travels!

Passing the Torch

by cheapchica11 on December 16, 2008

According to Page Six Magazine, Whitney Port is the new Carrie Bradshaw…

picture-38I’ll be the first to admit that if all I got for Christmas was a bootleg copy of the The City’s first season on DVD, I’d be a happy girl…but as much as I love me some Whitney, I can’t quite proclaim her as Carrie 2.0!!  They may both wear covetable fashions, have gorgeous blonde locks and walk the streets of Manhattan like it’s a runway, but their similarities stop there.

Ms. Bradshaw played a character on a TV show, and although she took us on an amazing journey through Manhattan, we always knew this life of hers was pure fiction.  Producers from The City are hoping (and banking on the fact) that viewers will believe Whitney’s life could be anyone’s…including yours.  But as a former 6 year veteran of that City, I know how unlikely her life is.

The real truth about New York, is that it’s one of the most challenging, yet utterly rewarding places to spend your early 20’s.  And while I had the best time of my life and always felt so lucky to have this incredible life experience, I also remember my $27K a year “salary”, eating Ramen for a week (because I blew my paycheck on a Gucci clutch), and feeling awful when I had to ask my parents for help with the rent…again.

The girls from The Hills, and now The City, have no freaking idea how good they have it…nor do the understand the concept of struggle that comes with living in cities like LA and New York.  And while Whitney and her crew will surely provide the ultimate fantasy for many girls across the US, let’s just remember that their “reality” is far from real.

Shoe Spectacular

by cheapchica11 on December 16, 2008

Steve Madden is currently offering 35% off your entire order when you enter discount code HAPPYHOLIDAYS35 at checkout!!

I just browsed out the entire selection (yes, I do have too much time on my hands) and they have some pretty special shoes in stock that I know you’ll totally love.  I had to restrain myself from buying all of them because I’m currently on a buying moratorium (due to my Saks spree a few weeks ago), but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t  dream!  Here are some of my favorites that I’ll be adding to my mental wish list…
